Stopped at Battery Warehouse to ask about 2nd battery. Owner said no problem, sold me & installed a new "deep-cycle", connecting it to my existing house battery with two cables, red to red and black to black. There was existing space for new battery and case, but I'll have to do some improvising on the venting.

Questions :

Is this installation correct? I didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling that he really knew what he was doing.

Do I now have double the stored energy?

Will my charging systems automatically charge the 2nd battery?

If I'm mostly boodocking but staying in CG once a week or so, will I have enough power if I don't use electric except for house lights and water pump?

Thanks in advance for the help.

After buying the second battery do you now have two 6 volt or two 12 volt batteries? Can't answer about the wiring without knowing! Also, are they 'regular' gel or acid batteries or are they 'Absorbed Glass Mat' (which doesn't need venting). BTW, I hope the original battery you had wasn't very old. Normally you want to keep the age of your battieries almost the same or the older, weaker, battery will bring down the performance of a new battery.

I have a class "A" with two deep 12v house bats on top and two more deep cells below. I ran into two problems. For almost a year I would leave the RV parked with no charging unit in place. While the RV was parked I would run out once a month to start her up and let it run for about a good hour. ......At some point, I must have skiped a month. I found That I had to replace my two lower bats before we were to go on a trip. Once we returned I wanted to pay more attend the the charging unit. At campers world I got a small 12"x 12" solor and ran it into the two lower bats. Next I got a test meter which I set no "2" for testing charge with the red to red and black to back. Next I had my store switch tested because I noticed the red light would always stay on. I did not know if it was set or not set. Now when I push the store switch the red light go's off. Now I run and check the RV about every two months and find in the meter test it never drops below 11.0 volts. The top two bats have not had to be changed and I'm happy about that so much wiring,

Would anyone have any other ideas. Over all the store switch is very important along with a solor panel should I go with a larger solar or can I fix one in place that I don't have to unhook prior to a trip.

You many want to look into getting a larger solar system that is permanent on the roof. You can pick up some great deals on a whole kit that includes the panel and the charge controller that will maintain your batteries without overcharging them. That way you don't have to worry about a switch.

I picked mine up at http://www.talcoelectronics.com

Hope this helps
